Festivus 2021

Festivus 2021

Dec 23, 2021

For those who don't get the reference: "Festivus is the name of a secular and non-commercial holiday characterized by the raising of an aluminum pole, the serving of a dinner, the airing of grievances, and the demonstration of feats of strength. " This was made famous on the television show "Seinfeld."

This post address the part of the celebration for the airing of grievances. But wait -- I don't have any true grievances anymore with my business. I cleared them out, addressed them, and moved forward. What a thing to celebrate! Sure, there are minor annoyances, but nothing that rises to the level of a true grievance. How is this possible? Because I decided it is so, then took the actions to make it happen.

In business, it is easy to get into disputes and hold grudges or just be annoyed with people. As I type this, I think of the clients who stiffed me on payment, teaming partners who lacked integrity, employees who stole, the insecure people projecting their short-comings on me, etc. But I made a decision to forgive them and to stop allowing them to live rent-free in my head. No more room at the inn.

What did this accomplish? First, it gave me clarity to move forward. No more going crazy reliving the past. My mind can now focus on the present and moving forward. Second, I let go of a burden. It takes a lot of work to carry grievances and by letting go, I felt lighter, more nimble, and open for good things to happen. Finally, I realized I was no longer the person who lived those events. It gave me an opportunity to appreciate how much I have accomplished and learned.

So, without evening trying, I won the feats of strength! The inner strength required to forgive and move forward is one of the strongest because it empowers you. Take a look at your business relationships and make the decision to let things go. It is not a sign of weakness, but a true embodiment of strength.

Wait. I do have a grievance with anyone who needs help but has not reached out to me via https://www.calendly.com/libby-coaching or [email protected]. Don't make me show you my feats of strength! Happy Festivus. Time to decorate the pole.
